Asset Description

The traditional silversmithing industry in the Inle region is primarily concentrated in the village of Heya Ywama. As a home-based craft, it is a significant part of the family economy. Local residents use silver items like offering bowls, traditional alms containers, cups, and ceremonial water pots for auspicious events such as religious donations and weddings. These silver pieces are highly valued as sacred items for pagodas and are especially popular among the Shan ethnic people.
Artisans have continually innovated, creating new silver designs over time. Their craftsmanship extends to various items such as cups, bowls, vases, and alms offering containers, all adorned with intricate patterns of mythical creatures, vines, and floral motifs. Notably, silver alms offering bowls are traditionally used for ceremonial food offerings during the procession of the revered Buddha images of Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda around Inle Lake.
The silversmithing industry, not only in Heya Ywama but also in other nearby villages, has faced challenges due to regional flooding, natural disasters, and the decline in tourism to the Inle area.
The process of silversmithing involves several steps:
First, the raw silver is melted down.
The melted silver is measured to the desired weight and placed in a crucible over a charcoal fire. The heated silver is then repeatedly hammered and heated on an iron block to form the desired shape and size. The artisan continues to hammer and heat the silver until it reaches the correct thickness.
Once the rough shape is complete, the item is cleaned, resulting in a blank piece.
The final stages of the process depend on the item being made. This can include drawing a design, creating floral patterns, twisting wire, cutting, and shaping patterns on the surface.

အင်းလေးငွေပန်းထိမ်လုပ်ငန်းသည် ဟဲယာရွာတွင်သာမက အခြားသောကျေးရွာအချို့တွင် အနည်းငယ်လုပ်ကိုင်ဆောင်ရွက်လျက် ရှိကြပါသည်။ အင်းလေးဒေသတွင် ရေကြီးခြင်း၊ သဘာဝအန္တရာယ်များကျရောက်ခြင်း စသည်တို့နှင့် ခေတ်ကာလအခြေနေအရ အင်းလေးသို့ခရီးသွားလာသူများ နည်းပါးခြင်းတို့ကြောင့် အချို့ သောလုပ်ငန်းများ အခက်ခဲများ ရှိနေပါသည်။
