A staple of major Mon festivals, the Gong Mon (Pāt-Kine) is a crescent-shaped bronze percussion instrument. The elegant, curved design of this instrument, resembling a Kinara (a mythical bird-like celestial) carrying it on its back, is essential not only for its pleasing appearance but also for providing a comfortable and effective playing experience for the performer.
The name "Pāt-Kine" comes from the Mon word "Bat-Kine." "Bat" refers to a type of instrument that is struck, and "Kine" means curved or bent. The Pāt-Kine consists of a crescent-shaped frame made from Yemane wood, from which 14 or 15 tuned bronze gongs are suspended. These gongs are then struck with a wooden mallet. The Pāt-Kine is a mandatory instrument for royal Mon ceremonies, cultural pageants, and the traditional Yu-Ka-Na festival.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, natural disasters, and civil conflict, many ceremonies have been canceled, causing musicians to abandon their livelihoods and their instruments to fall into disrepair. The Pāt-Kine’s role in both auspicious and inauspicious Mon ceremonies is gradually fading. The number of skilled Pāt-Kine players are now few and far between. Therefore, it is crucial to invest in human resources, knowledge, and funding to preserve this representative Mon instrument and ensure its survival for future generations.

ပတ်ကိုင်း - မွန်လခြမ်းမောင်းတူရိယာသည် မွန်လူမျိုးတို့၏ ပွဲတော်သဘင် အခမ်း အနားကြီးတို့တွင် အမြဲပါဝင်တီးခတ်ရသော ကြေးတူရိယာ တစ်မျိုးဖြစ်သည်။ ကိန္နရာနတ်မင်းမှ ကျောဖြင့် သယ်ပိုးထားလေဟန် ပစောက်ပုံသဏ္ဌာန် လခြမ်းမောင်းတူရိယာလေး၏ ကွေးညွတ်ပုံမှာ အမြင်ပသာဒကျမှုနှင့် တီးခတ်သူမှ တီးပြုရလွယ်ကူစေရန် အထိအတွေ့အံဝင်ခွင်ချဖြစ်မှုတို့သည် အရေးကြီးလှသည်။
“ပတ်ကိုင်း”ဟူသည်မှာ မွန်ဘာသာ “ဗာတ်ကိုင်” မှလာပြီး ဗာတ် - ရိုက်ခတ်တီးရသည့် တူရိယာအမျိုးအစား၊ ကိုင် - ကိုင်းညွတ်၊ ကွေးကိုင်းသည့်ဟန်ပန် ဟူ၍ အဓိပ္ပါယ် ရသည်။ ယမနေသားဖြင့် ပြုလုပ်ထားသည့် ပတ်ကိုင်းတူရိယာအိမ် အတွင်းတွင် သံစဉ်အလိုက် ကြေးမောင်း ၁၄ ခု (သို့) ၁၅ ခု တပ်ဆင်ချိတ်ဆွဲကာ သစ်သား လက်ခတ်ဖြင့် ရိုက်တီးရသည်။ မွန်လူမျိုးတို့၏ မင်းခမ်းမင်းနား၊ ယဉ်ကျေးမှု ပဒေသာကပွဲကြီးသာမက မွန်ရိုးရာ ယူကနားပွဲတွင်လည်း အမြဲတမ်းထည့်သွင်း အသုံးပြုရသော၊ မဖြစ်မနေပါရှိရသော တူရိယာတစ်မျိုးလည်း ဖြစ်သည်။
COVID -19 ကပ်ကာလ၏ သက်ရောက်မှု၊ သဘာဝဘေးအန္တရာယ်၏ ဖျက်ဆီးမှု၊ ပြည်တွင်းစစ်တို့၏ ရိုက်ခက်မှုတို့နှင့်အတူ ပွဲအခမ်းအနားကျင်းပခွင့်မရခြင်း၊ အသက်မွေးဝမ်းကျောင်းအလုပ်များကို စွန့်လွှတ်ရခြင်း၊ တူရိယာပစ္စည်းများ ပျက်စီးသွားရခြင်းတို့ကြောင့် ယနေ့တွင် မွန်လူမျိုးတို့၏ သုမင်္ဂလအခမ်းအနား၊ ဒုမင်္ဂလအခမ်းအနားတို့တွင် အမြဲပါဝင်ရသော ပတ်ကိုင်းတူရိယာကြီး၏ အခန်းကဏ္ဍသည် တဖြည်းဖြည်းမှေးမှိန်လာချေပြီဖြစ်သည်။ ပတ်ကိုင်း တီးခတ် တတ်သူ ပညာရှင်အရေအတွက်သည်လည်း လက်ချိုးရေတွက်၍ပင် ရနေပြီ ဖြစ်သောကြောင့် မွန်လူမျိုးကိုယ်စားပြု ကြေးမောင်းတူရိယာတစ်ခုဖြစ်သော ပတ်ကိုင်း - မွန်လခြမ်းမောင်းတူရိယာ တဖန်ပြန်လည်အဓွန့်ရှည်စေရေးအတွက် လူ့အရင်းအမြစ်အား၊ ပညာအား၊ ငွေအားဖြင့် ဝိုင်းဝန်းထိမ်းသိမ်းရန် လိုအပ်လျက်ရှိသည်။
