Asset Information

In 1803, King Bodawpaya commissioned the casting of the Sandamuni Image, weighing 11,368 viss (approx. 19 tonnes), along with 80 Arhat statues, in Mindon Nan Taw Kyun. These were later relocated to Amarapura in 1815, where a pagoda was constructed to house them. This pagoda was subsequently named Maha Sandamuni, in honor of the Sandamuni Buddha Image it enshrined.
The pagoda features a two-tiered boundary wall. The brick staircases are adorned with lion and Manuthiha (a mythical creature with a human face and a lion's body) statues, as well as traditional Burmese floral patterns. At each corner of the pagoda, there are rows of Manuthiha statues with diamond-shaped crowns. The site showcases the beautiful plasterwork and reliefs characteristic of Amarapura-era architecture. Nearby, visitors can also see the Kandawmingala and the 80 Arhat caves, which were built with millions of bricks. These attractions draw tourists and boost the local economy. A regional festival is held annually on the 14th day of the waxing moon of Nadaw (November-December).
The pagoda sustained damage during the 2025 earthquake, and its Arhat statues were also damaged in World War II. The presiding abbot of the Sandamuni Monastery led restoration and maintenance efforts. However, ongoing preservation faces challenges from natural disasters like earthquakes, necessitating expert support, specialized conservation techniques, and funding.
It is noteworthy that two other pagodas also bear the name Sandamuni: one in Innwa and another situated at the foot of Mandalay Hill. These sites offer a glimpse into the architectural styles of the Nyaungyan (17th century) and Yadanabon (late 19th century) periods.

၁၈၀၃ ခုနှစ်တွင် ဘိုးတော်ဘုရားသည် မင်းကွန်း နန်းတော်ကျွန်းတွင် သံပိဿာချိန် ၁၁,၃၆၈ ရှိ စန္ဒာမုနိရုပ်ပွားတော်နှင့်အတူ ရဟန္တာရုပ်တု (၈၀)အား သွန်းလုပ်ခဲ့ပြီး ၁၈၁၅ ခု နှစ်တွင် ရုပ်ပွားတော်နှင့် ရဟန္တာရုပ်တုများကို အမရပူရသို့ ရွှေ့ပြောင်းပူဇော်ကာ စေတီတစ်ဆူ တည်ထားခဲ့သည်။ စန္ဒာမုနိရုပ်ပွားတော်ကိုအစွဲပြု၍ မဟာစန္ဒာမုနိဘုရားဟု ဘွဲ့အမည်တွင်ခဲ့သည်။
မဟာရံတံတိုင်းနှစ်ဆင့်ပါ စေတီဖြစ်ပြီး၊ အုတ်လှေကားများ၏ဘေးဘယ်ညာတွင် ခြင်္သေ့၊ မနုဿီဟရုပ်တုများ၊ မြန်မာ့ရိုးရာပန်းအပြောက်အမွမ်းများဖြင့် တန်ဆာဆင်ထားသည်။ စေတီ၏ထောင့်ချိုးတိုင်းတွင် စိန်တောင်များပတ်ခြံရံနေသော မနုဿီဟရုပ်တုများကို အထက်၊ အောက် အစီအရီတန်ဆာဆင်ထားသည်။ အင်္ဂတေပန်း၊ ရုပ်လုံးရုပ်ကြွများဖြင့် တင့်တယ်လှပသော အမရပူရခေတ်ဗိသုကာပညာကို လေ့လာနိုင်သည်။ အုတ်ချပ်သန်းချီဖြင့် တည်ဆောက်ထားသော ကန်တော်မင်္ဂလာနှင့် ရဟန္တာရှစ်ဆယ်ဂူများကိုလည်း အနီးအပါးတွင် သွားရောက်နိုင်သောကြောင့် ထိုနေရာများသည် ခရီးသွားဧည့်သည်များအားဆွဲဆောင်ပြီး ဒေသတွင်းစီးပွားရေးလုပ်ငန်းများကို တိုးတက်ကောင်းမွန်စေပါသည်။ နတ်တော်လဆန်း (၁၄) ရက် တမ္ပဝတီနယ်လုံးဆိုင်ရာဘုရားပွဲကို ကျင်းပပါသည်။
၂၀၂၅ ခုနှစ် ငလျင်ကြောင့် ပြိုကျပျက်စီးမှုများရှိသည်။ ရဟန္တာရုပ်တုများသည် ဒုတိယကမ္ဘာစစ်အတွင်း ပျက်စီးခဲ့သည်။ စန္ဒာမုနိကျောင်းတိုက် ဦးစီးပဓာနနာယကဆရာတော်ဦးစီး၍ ပြုပြင်ထိန်းသိမ်းမှုများ လုပ်ဆောင်ခဲ့သည်။ လက်ရှိတွင် ငလျင်လှုပ်ခြင်းကဲ့သို့ သဘာဝဘေးအန္တရာယ်များ ကြုံတွေ့နေရပြီး ဆက်လက်ထိန်းသိမ်းရန်အတွက် ပညာရှင်၊ ထိန်းသိမ်းမှုနည်းပညာနှင့် ရံပုံငွေများ လိုအပ်လျက်ရှိပါသည်။
စန္ဒာမုနိအမည်ဖြင့် အင်းဝမြို့နှင့် မန္တလေးတောင်ခြေတွင် (၂) ဆူရှိပြီး ညောင်ရမ်းခေတ် (၁၇ ရာစု)နှင့် ရတနာပုံခေတ် (၁၉ရာစုနှောင်း) ဗိသုကာလက်ရာများကို လေ့လာနိုင်ပါသည်။
