During the Yadanabon period (also known as the Konbaung Dynasty), those who died within the royal city were taken out through the Ah-la-wee gate (also called the Kyay-mon gate). They were then transported along the Ah-la-wee Road, which was known as the "inauspicious road," and is now 22nd Street. They were cremated at a royal cemetery located between Shwetachaung and the Irrawaddy River jetty.
Between 1882 and 1885, Hlethin Interior Minister built two large resthouses, a substantial brick bridge, and two great lion statues at the western end of the bridge, along with the cemetery. While the resthouses, brick bridge, and cemetery are no longer extant, the two lion statues remain to this day. In the colonial era, this area, then known as C-Road, evolved into a significant commercial hub.
The lion statues are a great way to study the traditional Burmese architecture and plasterwork of the Yadanabon era. Local residents often make offerings of oil lamps, incense, flowers, and water in front of the two statues. There is also a yearly tradition of lighting up the statues with open oil lamps and electric lights from the 11th day of the waxing moon of Thadingyut until the first day after the full moon.
Previously, maintenance and repairs were carried out by those who had access to the site throughout various periods. From 1980-81 onwards, the board of trustees for the Adittan Aung Shweandaw Myat Pagoda, located near the two large lion statues, has been responsible for the upkeep. Due to the 2025 earthquake, the head of the large lion statue on the north side has collapsed, and only the southern statue remains, with cracks visible.

သင်္ချိုင်းတော်အုတ်တံတားကြီးနှင့်အတူ ဇရပ်ကြီးနှစ်ဆောင်၊ အုတ်တံတားကြီး၏အနောက်ထိပ် လမ်း၏ဝဲယာတွင် ခြင်္သေ့ကြီးနှစ်ကောင်ကို ၁၈၈၂-၁၈၈၅ ခုနှစ်အတွင်း လှေသင်းအတွင်းဝန်မင်းက တည်ဆောက်ခဲ့သည်။ ယခုအခါ ခြင်္သေ့ကြီးနှစ်ကောင်သာကျန်ရှိပြီး သင်္ချိုင်းတော်၊ အုတ်တံတား၊ ဇရပ်များကို တွေ့နိုင်ခြင်းမရှိတော့ပါ။ ကိုလိုနီခေတ်တွင် စီ(C)လမ်းဟု အမည်တွင်ပြီး စီးပွားရေးအရ အရေးပါသောနေရာတစ်ခု ဖြစ်ခဲ့သည်။
ခြင်္သေ့ကြီးနှစ်ကောင်တွင် ရတနာပုံခေတ်၏ မြန်မာ့ရိုးရာဗိသုကာပညာ၊ ပန်းရန်အတတ်၊ အင်္ဂတေပန်းတော့လက်ရာများကို လေ့လာနိုင်သည်။ ခြင်္သေ့ကြီးနှစ်ကောင်အရှေ့တွင် အနီးဝန်းကျင်ဒေသခံများက ဆီမီး၊ အမွှေးနံ့သာ၊ ပန်း၊ ရေချမ်းများဖြင့် ပူဇော်လေ့ရှိကြသည်။ ခြင်္သေ့ကြီးများကို နှစ်စဉ်သီတင်းကျွတ်လဆန်း (၁၁)ရက်မှ လပြည့်ကျော် (၁)ရက်အထိ ဆီမီး၊ လျှပ်စစ်မီးများဖြင့် ပူဇော်သော ဓလေ့လည်းရှိသည်။
ခေတ်အဆက်ဆက် လက်လှမ်းမီသူများမှ ပြင်ဆင်ထိန်းသိမ်းမှုရှိခဲ့ရာမှ ၁၉၈၀-၈၁ ခုနှစ် နောက်ပိုင်းမှစ၍ ခြင်္သေ့ကြီးနှစ်ကောင်အနီးရှိ အဓိဌာန်အောင် ရွှေအံတော်မြတ်စွာဘုရား ဂေါပကအဖွဲ့မှ ပြင်ဆင်ထိန်းသိမ်းလျက်ရှိသည်။ ၂၀၂၅ ခုနှစ် ငလျင်ကြောင့် မြောက်ဘက်မှ ခြင်္သေ့ရုပ်တုကြီးသည် ဦးခေါင်းပိုင်းပြိုကျသွားပြီး တောင်ဘက်မှရုပ်တုသာ အက်ကြောင်းရာများဖြင့် ကျန်ရှိနေတော့သည်။
