  U Pwa Pagoda was built in 1847 by U Pwa, who served as Minister of Revenue and Secretary for King Bagan Min during the Amarapura era. It is popularly known as U Pwa Pagoda after its founder. The pagoda's base measures 60 cubits and its height is 61 cubits.

  This pagoda is considered an architectural masterpiece of the Amarapura period. It features Nat Lan entrances, thayet-kin stairways, and lion statues. The two large lions at the western entrance are considered the second most well-proportioned and statues in Mandalay. This pagoda also has the largest number of thin-pote platforms (brick platforms for offering alms). In the past, people would inscribe the name and age of a deceased person on the surface of the platform to donate a platform as a meritorious deed, allowing others to offer alms to the Buddha in their memory.

  Currently, the two large lion statues have been damaged by the earthquake, and many of the original thin-pote platforms are no longer present. Only one thin-pote platform remains, located in a smaller stupa called Naungdawgyi Pagoda within the U Pwa Pagoda compound.

  The flyover bridge next to U Pwa Pagoda is also named after the pagoda, and is known as the U Pwa Flyover.

  အမရပူရခေတ် ဗိသုကာလက်ရာမြောက် ဘုရားတစ်ဆူဖြစ်သည်။ နတ်လမ်းမုခ်များ၊ သရက်ကင်းလှေကားများ၊ ခြင်္သေ့ရုပ်များ ပါဝင်သည်။ အနောက်မုခ် ခြင်္သေ့ကြီးနှစ်ကောင်မှာ မန္တလေးမြို့တွင် ဒုတိယ အချိုးအစား အကျဆုံးဖြစ်သော လှပသည့် ခြင်္သေ့ရုပ်များအဖြစ် သတ်မှတ်ကြသည်။ သင်ပုတ်ပလ္လင် (ဆွမ်း‌တော်တင် အုတ်ပလ္လင်) အများဆုံးရှိရာ ဘုရားလည်းဖြစ်သည်။ သင်ပုတ်ပလ္လင်မှာ ကွယ်လွန်သူအားရည်စူး၍ မြတ်စွာဘုရားရှင်အား ဆွမ်း‌တော်ကပ်လှူရန် ပလ္လင်တည် ကုသိုလ်ပြုကြခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။ သင်ပုတ်ပလ္လင်၏ မျက်နှာပြင်တွင် ကွယ်လွန်သူ၏ အသက်နှင့်နေရာများကို ကမ္ပည်းရေးထိုးကြသည်။

  လက်ရှိတွင် ငလျင်ဒဏ်ကြောင့် ခြင်္သေ့ကြီးနှစ်ကောင် ပျက်စီးသွားပြီး၊ ခေတ်ကာလရွေ့လျားမှုများကြောင့် သင်ပုတ်ပလ္လင်များကို အများအပြားတွေ့ရှိနိုင်ခြင်း မရှိတော့ပါ။ ဦးပွားဘုရားဝင်းအတွင်းရှိ စေတီရံ တစ်ဆူဖြစ်သော နောင်တော်ကြီးစေတီတွင်သာ သင်ပုတ်ပလ္လင်တစ်ခုကို တွေ့နိုင်‌သည်။
