  The Main Temple was constructed in 1912 by a British military officer during the war to serve as a place of worship for Bengali, Gurkha, and Baboo people from Calcutta, India. The statues inside, including the one of Mother Chandi, are said to have been crafted in the style of those found in Calcutta.

  The Durga Puja festival, a ceremony honoring Mother Chandi, is held annually from the 5th to the 10th day of the waxing moon of Thadingyut. During this time, not only Hindus from Mawlamyine but also other Burmese and Chinese Buddhists come to worship.

  While the building has been repaired, the statues themselves have only been repainted, not renovated. The Main Temple is maintained by the Mother Chandi Temple Board of Trustees. It is quite fascinating to witness the artistry of the Hindu statues in Mawlamyine, from their poses to the use of colour.

  စံကျောင်းဆောင်ကြီးကို ၁၉၁၂ ခုနှစ်တွင် စစ်ကြီးကာလ ဗြိတိသျှတပ်၌ တာဝန်ထမ်းဆောင်နေသူ အရာရှိတစ်ဦးမှ အိန္ဒိယ၊ ကာလကတ္တားက ဘင်္ဂါလီ၊ ဂေါ်ရခါး၊ ဘာဘူလူမျိုးတို့ ကိုးကွယ်ဝတ်ပြုမှုပြုနိုင်ရန် ရည်ရွယ်ဆောက်လုပ်ခဲ့ကြ ခြင်းဖြစ်သည်။ စံကျောင်းအတွင်းရှိ စန္ဒီမယ်တော်နှင့် ရုပ်တုများကို ကာလကတ္တားမှ ပုံစံအတိုင်း ထုလုပ်ထားသည်ဆိုသည်။

  ဒူရ်ဂါပူဂျာ စန္ဒီမယ်တော်ပူဇော်ပွဲကို နှစ်စဉ် သီတင်းကျွတ်လဆန်း (၅) ရက်မှ (၁၀) ရက်အထိ ကျင်းပပြီး မော်လမြိုင်မြို့ရှိ ဟိန္ဒူဘာသာဝင်တို့အပြင် အခြားသော မြန်မာလူမျိုး၊ တရုတ်လူမျိုး ဗုဒ္ဓဘာသာဝင်များလည်း လာရောက်ဝတ်ပြု ပူဇော် ကြသည်။

  အဆောက်အအုံကို ပြန်လည်ပြင်ဆင်တာမျိုးရှိသော်လည်း ရုပ်တုကို ဆေးထပ်သုတ်သည်မှအပ ပြုပြင်မွမ်းမံတာမျိုး မရှိပါ။ စံကျောင်းတော်ကြီးကို စန္ဒီမယ်တော်ကြီးကျောင်းဂေါပကအဖွဲ့ဝင်ကပင် ဆက်လက်ထိန်းသိမ်းစောင့်ရှောက် ထားပါသည်။ မော်လမြိုင်ရှိ ဟိန္ဒူဘာသာဝင်တို့၏ ရုပ်တုအနုပညာ၊ ကိုယ်ဟန်အနေ အထားနှင့် အရောင်အသုံးပြုပုံတို့သည် စိတ်ဝင်စားဖွယ်ကောင်းလှသည်။
