  The paintings on the door panels and walls of the monastery in Kyaik Ywe village, Mudon Township, Mon State, are believed to have been there since the monastery was completed in 1917 (1279 in the Burmese calendar).

  The poster-colour paintings, which measure one by one and a half feet, resemble the style of Saya Chone, the royal court artist from the Konbaung era's Yadanabon period. Because the monastery was completed in the same year Saya Chone died, experts believe the paintings are either his work or the work of one of his close disciples.

  The paintings show an understanding of perspective and are a valuable resource for studying the clothing and adornments of the Yadanabon period. They are also suitable for reference and recreating, making them important for those studying traditional Burmese painting.

  Unfortunately, some of the paintings have been lost or damaged, and some have been restored or replaced, which has compromised their original integrity. The paintings on the door panels and walls are preserved behind glass, which has protected them from major damage. The abbot of the monastery is currently overseeing their preservation.
